Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation around the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
