The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after fresh information came to light.

This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a filing authorising the arrest, Justice Moraes said information from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the chaos caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.
